HIV Positive Ypsilanti Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teen

A man whose lawyer says that he is a ‘target of accusations’ has now been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage boy. This is the fourth teen who has made sexual allegations against the man, Leonardo Devinci Christian. Christian is an Ypsilanti community event organizer who is HIV positive according to news reports.

Christian was arraigned on 13 criminal charges related to the assault of three other teen boys earlier this year. Prosecutors allege that Christian sexually assaulted the latest alleged victim during the months of June and July this year. Since charged on August 31 in the initial sexual assault case, Christian has been incarcerated in the Washtenaw County Jail. His attorney, Michael Vincent, said that Christian has performed an untold amount of charity work for the city and those who are in need of something to eat, and that “it’s easy to accuse somebody of something.”

Christian was charged with first-degree CSC on a person between 13 and 16 years old, third-degree CSC involving penetration on a person between 13 and 16 years old, sexual penetration by a person with AIDS/HIV on an uninformed partner and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct. He was arraigned on the charges in front of Magistrate Thomas Truesdell during the first part of December, who increased his bond from $50,000 cash to $100,000.

According to one of the victims, Christian had given him and his family holiday meal tickets among other things. The 14-year-old boy’s family brought charges against Christian, and soon after two more boys accused him of sexual assault related to incidents that allegedly took place in 2006. Christian will face trial in these initial cases on January 22.

Michigan sex crime attorneys know that preparing a defense for sex-related crimes is particularly challenging, and that individuals are often falsely accused. Even in the case of first-time offenders, prosecutors are vigorous in their efforts to obtain the most harsh sentencing possible for these crimes.
