19-year-old Pontiac Man Faces Multiple Sex-Related Charges

William Carl Kilburn, a 19-year-old Pontiac man, has been arrested after allegedly meeting an Ionia County teenager on the internet and conspiring to have sex with the teenager’s 8-year-old relative. News reports state that the claims were investigated over a six-week period by the Ionia and Montcalm counties’ sheriff’s departments. Kilburn allegedly attempted to get an Ionia County girl who was 16 years old to obtain material for him which was sexual in nature; he also tried to have sexual relations with the teen’s 8-year-old relative.

Michigan sex crime attorneys understand how serious these accusations are, and how a conviction will affect individuals’ lives forever. In first-degree criminal sexual conduct, those convicted could face up to life in prison if penetration is involved. There are a number of factors that affect the severity of punishment.

Additionally, those who are accused of possessing or distributing child sexually abusive materials may face penalties which include a fine of up to $50,000 and up to 7 years in prison. While all of these penalties are extremely harsh, perhaps the worst of all is being required to register as a sex offender for life. Registered sex offenders face lifelong issues regarding employment and where they can/cannot live, and are generally shunned by the community.

Innocent people are accused of sex crimes every day; unfortunately, many who are not guilty of the offenses they are accused of end up behind bars and are labeled sex offenders. Essentially, their lives are ruined. If you have been arrested for criminal sexual conduct, sexual assault or any sex-related crime, consult with a seasoned Michigan sex crimes lawyer who takes a strong stand and fights aggressively for his clients.
