Christopher DeMorrow, a former Catholic school teacher at Grand Ledge Catholic School in Lansing, was previously charged with criminal sexual conduct. After pleading guilty to domestic violence charges, the CSC charges were dropped by prosecutors.
The Lansing State Journal reported that 40-year-old DeMorrow admitted that he had kicked his former wife in the back during a dispute about what to watch on television at an Ingham County Circuit Court hearing last month. DeMorrow also admitted that he had placed her in fear after ripping a rake out of her hand during an argument.
DeMorrow was previously accused of sexually abusing boys at his home in East Lansing. In 2011, DeMorrow’s ex-wife gave testimony in a preliminary hearing regarding the sexual abuse, alleging that he had touched a child inappropriately, licked a child’s face and masturbated in front of children. These details were not mentioned during the hearing last month before Ingham Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina.
Judge Aquilina released DeMorrow from the monitoring electronic tether he had been wearing since April 2011 when he was released on bond, although she remarked that the CSC allegations were “disturbing.” He now faces up to one year in jail on the domestic violence and aggravated domestic violence charges, both misdemeanors. DeMorrow is scheduled for sentencing on November 28th.
It wasn’t clear at the time of news reports as to why the criminal sexual conduct charges were dropped. Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III would not discuss the issue, but said he would be able to do so after sentencing. DeMorrow formerly taught seventh and eight grade students at St. Michael parish School, however those students allegedly were not involved in the original claims of criminal sexual conduct.
As trusted Michigan sex crimes defense lawyers, we know that false allegations of sex-related offenses are often leveled against innocent people. We don’t yet know why the CSC charges against DeMorrow were dismissed, but perhaps we will in the coming weeks.
If you have been charged with criminal sexual conduct it is crucial that you consult with a capable and experienced Michigan sex crime defense attorney at once, who will work to protect your future and freedom.
