Warren Man Charged With Three Rapes and Robberies in Detroit Incidents

Gabriel Lamont Cooper, a 31-year-old Warren man, has been charged with three rapes and robberies which occurred in the Detroit area over a period of several months. Cooper was charged by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy with three counts of armed robbery and felonious assault, three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of second-degree CSC, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of unlawful driving away of a vehicle, along with numerous weapons charges according to the Macomb Daily.

Cooper was arrested on January 14th following a hit-and-run accident in Detroit in which he fled the scene. Police discovered the same day of the arrest that Cooper had met a 27-year-old woman on a social networking site called MocoSpace, and that he had allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted the woman. According to prosecutors, Cooper went to the woman’s residence and revealed a handgun; he then allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted the woman before leaving the home in a van.

On December 29, Cooper drove up to a woman’s home at approximately 9 a.m. as she was shoveling snow. He then allegedly robbed her, taking money and other items before getting into her car and driving the woman to a parking lot, where he is accused of raping her before fleeing on foot.

Another incident occurred on September 26 at about 10 p.m. News reports claim that Cooper approached a 32-year-old woman from behind as she was walking from a bus stop; he allegedly pulled a knife and put it at her throat before taking her behind an abandoned building where he robbed and sexually assaulted her, according to prosecutors.

Cooper’s preliminary examination will be held on January 29th in district court. He is being held on a $2 million bond.
