Michigan state police are continuing to investigate Mallo, and suspect there may be other victims. News reports at UpNorthLive.com indicate that Mallo drove himself from Tennessee to Osceola County and turned himself in. He was already being held in the Osceola County Jail when he was charged with the four counts. Mallo was jailed on five charges of first-degree CSC, so now faces nine counts in total. The five initial counts of criminal sexual conduct were in connection with sexual assaults which allegedly occurred between 1990 and 1992.

Mallo will go on trial for the initial five counts, although a trial date has yet to be scheduled. News reports indicate the newer counts will go forward at the first of the year in District Court; Mallo is being held without bond.

First-degree criminal sexual conduct is an extremely serious charge, the most devastating of all sex crimes. Individuals who are convicted of first-degree CSC may face up to life in prison, very harsh punishment considering it is the same sentence often handed down for murder.

Sex crimes are vigorously prosecuted and harshly punished in the state of Michigan. Not only is jail/prison time substantial for various sex offenses, many who are convicted or who plead guilty are required to register as sex offenders. Sex offender status leaves individuals facing many hardships when it comes to employment, housing, and even obtaining financing. Those who are labeled sex offenders are frequently shunned by society as well.
