Michigan sexual assault defense attorneys know that when an individual is accused of a criminal offense which is sexual in nature, it can be a very frightening and stressful time. Recently, a 36-year-old Ypsilanti man pleaded no contest to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Randolph Deshawn Hussey, according to court records, pleaded no contest to third-degree sexual conduct on Tuesday, July 10th in the Washtenaw County Trial Court.
Hussey, who has a criminal past which includes six additional criminal sexual conduct charges, accepted the plea deal so that the six other charges which are both first and second degree will be dismissed. Hussey will also not be sentenced as a habitual offender as a result of the plea bargain. He will likely be sentenced to a prison term of between 3 and 15 years.
The 15-year-old alleged victim stated that many of the assault incidents took place in Ypsilanti Township at a residence on Desoto Avenue. Hussey was arraigned on the sexual assault charges in February, at which time he stood mute. Court records reveal that the defendant was convicted for possession of heroin, cocaine or other controlled substances of less than 50 grams in November of 2000. He was also convicted on charges of manufacturing and delivering marijuana and cocaine.
Previous charges of criminal sexual conduct against Hussey occurred over a time period of nine years, which means he is likely very familiar with the feelings of fear and the unknown at this point. Whether a first-time or repeat offender, no doubt the complex criminal justice system is intimidating and capable of instilling fear in even the most hardened of criminals.
Whether the accused is innocent or guilty of the charges against him or her, the repercussions can be serious and life-altering. Sexual crimes, particularly those against minors, can be the ruin of a person’s reputation and even his career. Having a permanent criminal record and/or being required to register as a sex offender can mean a dark cloud that hangs over you for the remainder of your life.
If you have been charged with a sex related crime, it is critical that you speak with an aggressive Michigan sex crimes defense lawyer immediately for the best possible outcome.
